If Not YOU, then WHO?
Are You A “Wellness Provider”?
If So, How Are YOU Directing Your Patients Struggling with Type 2 Diabetes?
Many providers with “Wellness Clinics” often find it quite humbling to realize that, just like our society as a whole, a very high percent of their patients are struggling with Type 2 Diabetes. These folks are NOT well!
Maybe you pay attention to that condition? Or maybe you don’t? Maybe you feel you can’t really help patients with Type 2? Or maybe you feel that’s not your “specialty”? Well, if that’s the case, we will ask the question again:
If not YOU, then WHO?
Who is helping your patients with the CAUSE of their condition? Not prescribing them something to control the EFFECTS!
If you haven’t noticed, the rise in the incidence of this condition is outlandish and seriously concerning. We want to give credit right away for the great image to the right. It comes from an article about Type 2 Diabetes on the daytwo.com website. The link at the bottom of this article shares the exact source. Check it out …
To us, that image is a very simple, yet striking perspective of just how prevalent metabolic disease is in America. The continual rise of occurrence along with the very serious effects of it, are finally getting people to ASK about it. Informed people are finally trying to prevent it and even reversing it in many cases. The problem is that very few are informed!
Another article from February 27, 2017, appeared on healthline.com entitled “Type 2 Diabetes Statistics and Facts”. It was written by Adrienne Santos-Longhurst and Medically Reviewed by Peggy Pletcher, MS, RD, LD, CDE. The article shared many of the statistics associated with this condition. The numbers seem ridiculously high.
It’s almost unbelievable that a condition that is typically preventable and/or reversible is allowed to persist and flourish like it is! Here are just a few snippets taken directly from the article. (Note: we added the bold and underlines)
“Risk factors: Many risk factors for type 2 diabetes include lifestyle decisions that can be reduced or even cut out entirely with time and effort. Men are also at slightly higher risk of developing diabetes than women. This may be more associated with lifestyle factors, body weight, and where the weight is located (abdominally versus in the hip area) than with innate gender differences”.
“Prevalence: Type 2 diabetes is increasingly prevalent but also largely preventable. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), type 2 diabetes accounts for about 90 to 95 percent of all diagnosed cases of diabetes in adults”.
“Weight: Keeping a healthy weight is important. The Diabetes Prevention Program found that weight loss and increased physical activity reduced the chance of prediabetes turning into type 2 diabetes by 58 percent. For people 60 years or older, the reduction was 71 percent. For overweight people, losing five to seven percent of body weight through exercise and healthy eating could prevent the onset of type 2 diabetes”.
WHOA! The chances of reducing this condition are SO high! This is information coming from very reliable and “official” sources! Check out the article for yourself. That link is below, too.
